Association
History
In the summer of 2023, student rugby associations A.S.R.V. Ascrum and AMC Rugby joined forces to get women excited about a 6-week rugby clinic. This caught on: that year, 15 girls forged a close bond centered around rugby, beer, and the exciting feeling that they were at the beginning of something that would become bigger than all of them. This first year was mainly about getting to know each other and the sport. Under the guidance of legendary rugby coach Michael Assman, the board of Ascrum ’23-’24, and the initiators from AMC Rugby, this proceeded smoothly, and the identity of MEDUSA was slowly formed. At the end of this first year, which was rounded off by a very successful tournament season, thoughts began to turn to how things would proceed: Ascrum did not really feel the need for too much interference from women in their male-dominated world, and AMC Rugby was meanwhile dying out. Isa Appel, together with Lena Ebbing, Anne Boel, and Anthe van de Poll, decided to take on the responsibility for the first board year. Committees were established from the ground up, a first cluster team was formed together with the Rugbyende Utrechtse Studenten, and bestuurs jackets were ordered via Vinted. By the end of this board year, the Ebbing board had signed the statutes, established a name for Medusa within the Dutch Student Rugby Union, and created an association consisting of more than 30 enthusiastic ladies. In the second board year, Scheja, the board continued this trend of spreading the name and creating a sense of community: the entire Medusa group was given the opportunity to compete with the Amstelveen ladies in the second division, Medusa was officially admitted to the Dutch Student Rugby Union, and hard work was done to make the morres of student life and the feeling of rugby a part of Medusa. Today, the association continues this trend of growth and enthusiasm: we are always busy discovering traditions, building identity, and learning to play better rugby. Do you want to contribute to this development, just like every member of Medusa? Sign up for our 6-week clinic at the beginning of the year, send an email to medusa.adsr@gmail.com, or send us a DM on Instagram. VAN STEEN
Medusa: The Story
The story of Medusa may not be known to everyone: Medusa was a beautiful young woman who worshipped the goddess Athena as a priestess. One day, she was overpowered by the ocean god, Poseidon. He took her in Athena's sacred temple, and as punishment, Athena transformed Medusa into a monster with snake hair that turned all men who caught her gaze into STONE. Since then, Medusa has symbolized misunderstood and unheard women in a society full of men who do as they please. Just like the mythical Medusa, we fight on the field and off it to turn all our opponents INTO STONE.
Season planning
Committees
Committees are the driving force behind the open atmosphere and success of Medusa. Together, our members form the building blocks of our association. From the tournament season to the newsletter, from the (still hypothetical) nude calendar to our annual trip, seeking sponsors and devising anthems, everything is organized by enthusiastic Medusans. Members are also encouraged to take the initiative to set up new committees themselves. Through all these committees, every member forms an important part of Medusa, and everyone is involved in the association in their own way.

ROCO Newsletter
The ROCO is our monthly dose of everything you need to know: previous rugby matches, interviews with the members, Medusa murmurs and much more. We put in high effort for your low effort enjoyment through the mail.
